There are specially three major trekking routes in Annapurna trekking region: to Jomsom or Mustang, to the Annapurna Sanctuary and a circuit of the entire massif Annapurna trekking. For variety and outstanding walking, the classic Annapurna circuit trek justifiably ranks as one of the best in the world. With the truly breathtaking scenery of the Himalayas to the verdant, green valleys below, dry but frosty lands of the north and the friendliness of the villagers met along the way; almost every step of this trek produces a seemingly endless wealth of new experiences.
Beginning with an overland journey to Beshi Sahar or Bhulbhule, 165 km West of Kathmandu where you overnight. Your trek follows the gorge of Marshyangdi River through green fields of paddy, innumerable tiny streams, waterfalls and beautiful villages, eventually emerging into high desert country at Manang (3597m.). The Annapurna circuit trek gains in height fairly gently reducing the chances of altitude sickness, although you do spend a day acclimatizing before crossing the Thorang-La (5416m.). From a high lodge camp you up early for our crossing of the Thorang-La (tremendous high mountain feelings) before your decent to Muktinath in the lower Mustang region, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Buddhist and Hindu people in Nepal.
You continue through the dry arid landscape to Kagbeni, a fascinating historical fortress town. The trail back follows the Kali Gandaki River to Jomsom (optional fly out here) beneath the shadow of immense Himalayan peaks and through the deepest canyon in the World. You descend to Tatopani before ascending to Ghorepani and Poon hill for some tremendous sunrise views of both the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himal. A further two days are spent in Annapurna trekking region through beautiful Rhododendron, Bamboo and Oak forest before eventually reaching Nayapul for a short drive to the beautiful lakeside town of Pokhara. This Annapurna circuit trek is considered to be the classical trek in Nepal to experience the vast bio diversity and cultural heritage Nepal is renowned for.
